Mapping
Your
Giving Responsibility
A reflection tool
for joining One Thousand Hands
Why We Use The Word “Responsibility”
Mapping Your Giving Responsibility is a self-reflection tool that helps you understand what amount of monthly giving aligns with your access to resources and your values.
We use the word responsibility intentionally.
Not as judgment — but as truth-telling.
We believe we all share a responsibility to one another, and that giving can be a practice rooted in honesty, clarity, and collective care rather than guilt or impulse.
This Is A Guide,
Not A Prescription
You know your real financial picture.
We don’t.
This tool is here to help you think about your giving…not to dictate it.
Use it as a map, as a guide, not a mandate.
And because you may support multiple organizations, mutual aid efforts, family members, or community needs, this tool invites you to consider your total monthly giving, not just what you give to Loving Black Single Mothers.
How to Use
This Tool
Read the four narrative profiles below.
Find the one that feels closest to your lived reality.
Then choose a monthly giving amount that feels honest, sustainable, and aligned.
Most people will join One Thousand Hands at $10/month.
Some will give more.
Some will give much more.
This reflection helps you locate what’s true for you.
Mapping Your Giving Responsibility
TIER 1
Lower Access /
Tight Budgets
If these statements feel true for you:
I have no choice but to live with roommates because the cost of living is too high.
My expendable income goes toward small joys (plants, books, thrifted fashion).
Most of my friends are service workers or work multiple jobs to make ends meet.
If you answered yes to most of these statements, we invite you to join One Thousand Hands at $10–$25/month.
TIER 2
Middle Access /
Comfortable but Not Abundant
If these statements feel true for you:
I comfortably live alone or with just my immediate family.
I regularly go out for brunch, dinner, or drinks with friends.
Most of my friends work white-collar jobs and have benefits.
If you answered yes to most of these statements, we invite you to join One Thousand Hands at $25–$45/month.
Tier 3
Upper Middle Access /
High Flexibility and Convenience
If these statements feel true for you:
I regularly hire care workers (cleaners, food prep, etc.).
I recently spent a couple hundred dollars (or more) on concerts, events, or leisure activities.
I know more than three people in my network who make a six-figure income..
If you answered yes to most of these statements, we invite you to join One Thousand Hands at $75–$100/month.
Tier 4
High Access /
Abundant Stability + Wealth Proximity
If these statements feel true for you:
I can pay for unexpected housing or car repairs with minimal stress.
I can comfortably go on multiple vacations a year.
Most people in my network own homes or rent high-end properties.
If you answered yes to most of these statements, we invite you to join One Thousand Hands at $125/month, reflecting both your high access to stability and the role you can play in sustaining long-term care.
A Guiding Question:
“What amount can I give each month that is both honest and sustainable, considering my total giving and my access to resources?”
Wherever you land, thank you.
Giving is not about equal amounts; it’s about telling the truth about your access, honoring your capacity, and participating in the collective work of redistributing resources in the ways that we can.
